Dr. Ralph S. Provost, of Shelburne, died on March 24, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born on Jan. 30, 1926, in Burlington, the son of Stanley and Winifred (Smith) Provost. Dr. Provost attended Burlington schools, graduating from BHS in 1943. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, serving in the Submarine Service in the Pacific. Upon his discharge from the navy, he attended UVM and Temple University Dental School, graduating in 1953. Dr. Provost practiced in Burlington until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Vermont State Dental Society and served as secretary from 1962 to 1970. Dr. Provost was an enthusiastic golfer, a member of Rocky Ridge for many years. He enjoyed hiking, completing the Long Trail from end to end with his son David. He also enjoyed gardening and cooking. Dr. Provost was predeceased in 2011 by his wife, Jane (Hooper), whom he married in 1948. He is survived by his daughter, Linda of Burlington; son, Richard and his wife, Barbara, of Berlin; daughter, Carol Lea and her husband, Kirk, of Monkton, and their children, Dustin and Kelsey; son, David and his wife, Margaret, of Berlin, and their children, Christopher and Eric; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Keighley. A memorial service will take place on May 4, 2013, at the Louisa Howard Chapel, 455 North Ave., Burlington. Burial will be at the family plot in Lakeview Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
