On Thursday, March 28, 2013, at approximately 0550 hours, the Shelburne Police Department was dispatched to the report of a two car motor vehicle crash. The crash involved a tractor trailer unit and an SUV. It appears the SUV failed to yield to oncoming traffic as it crossed the intersection located at U.S. Route 7 and Harbor Road. The Tractor Trailer was traveling south on U.S. Route 7 when the SUV pulled in front of the tractor trailer. The tractor trailer impacted the SUV on the passenger side causing extensive damage and the side impact air bags to deploy.
The operator of the SUV was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care with non-life threatening injuries. Had the operator not been wearing a seat belt, injuries would have been significantly worse. The operator of the tractor trailer also suffered non-life threatening injury and was transported as well. The tractor trailer operator was also wearing his seatbelt during the accident potentially mitigating any additional injury.
The accident happened during a time when the traffic signal lamps were flashing. This is a reminder to all motorists to please make sure no traffic is approaching the intersection prior to entering it.
The accident is still under investigation at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is urged to contact the Shelburne Police Department at (802) 985-8051.
