2nd Annual Fool’s Flop Creates Waves at Shelburne Beach!  The 2nd Annual Fool’s Flop was held on Sunday, April 7 at Shelburne Beach to raise funds for the renovation of the Davis Park playground.  We want to send a very special thank you to all those that braved the frigid temperatures to “Flop” in the lake and to all those that donated in support of this event and those that “flopped!” We still have a long way to go in raising funds to support the playground project but this was a great beginning and a fun way to kick off the fundraising.

Youth Lacrosse Registration Deadline:  The registration deadline for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 2nd grade is April 12. Registration forms will be available on our website or at the Recreation office.  Find more program details online at

Suburban Babe Ruth Registration Deadline: April 30. This program is for boys ages 13-15 as of April 30.  The regular season will run the month of June with approximately 3 games per week.  Post season play will start in July. Registration fee is $90. Registration forms can be found at or at the Recreation Office.

Gentle Hatha Yoga:  Learn basic yoga postures and posture modifications coupled with uplifting positive affirmations unique to the Ananda tradition of Hatha Yoga. This mat class is perfect for students of all levels who desire a relaxed pace and ideal for those who wish to practice yoga using a gentle approach with awareness to their own body’s needs. Beginners are welcome! Affirmations are uplifting thoughts which accompany many of the postures, helping the body, mind and spirit find harmony and unity. Participants will need to provide their own mat.  This class will run Tuesdays from 9:15 – 10:15 am on April 30-June 11.  The class fee is $70 and will be held in the Shelburne Town Hall.  Class instructor is Sylvia Kabusk, Ananda Yoga certified.

Intro To Shotokan Karate:  Sundays, 11 am-12 pm from April 28-June 9 (no class May 5).  Students will improve their balance, physical fitness and stamina by learning the fundamentals of Shotokan Karate. Students will learn basic stances, blocks, forms, strikes and self-defense. Students will gain confidence and control through the repetition and practice of basic karate, which will be its own reward as students realize what can be accomplished through practice and hard work. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join with their kids! Family discounts: first person in family pays full amount, additional family members take a $15 discount per person/ per session. For ages: 6 and up. Class fee is $50.

Boater Safety Course:  This basic course is offered by the Vermont State Police and is REQUIRED by Vermont law for all power boat operators on Vermont waters who were born after January 1, 1974. Instruction will include topics on boat handling, navigation and safety requirements. Recommended for anyone 12 years and older. Participants must attend all four dates listed! Space is limited and preregistration is required. Class dates are Tuesday and Thursday, May 7, 9, 14 and 16 from 6-8 pm each night.  Class fee is $10.

Intro To Gymnastics: Gymnastics is a great way to develop strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, and focus! Students will learn the basic elements of floor exercise and balance beam in a fun and encouraging environment. Your child will gain confidence and a sense of achievement with each new skill mastered! Open to both boys and girls.  For kids ages 4-6 years old.  Class dates are Tuesdays, April 30-June 4 from 3-4 pm for $60 and will be held in the Shelburne Town Gym.  The class instructor is Karen Krajacek.

23rd Annual Champlain Classic: Sunday, May 5. Shelburne Parks and Recreation is proud to host this exciting annual event featuring a 5K, 15K, and 1K Free Kids Road Race. T-shirts will be given to all pre-registered 15K and 5K runners, and will be available on a first come basis the day of the race. Kid’s t-shirts are available for $10 but MUST be pre-ordered by April 17. If you aren’t a runner, join the fun by volunteering! Volunteers are needed to help at water stations and along the trail!
