Comedy night benefits Shelburne, Charlotte PTOs

Come out for a night of comedy on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 pm at the Old Lantern in Charlotte.  Organized by local comedian and bookseller, Josie Leavitt, owner of The Flying Pig Bookstore and Kelly Dousevicz, Flying Pig employee and Charlotte parent, the event will benefit the PTOs of both Shelburne and Charlotte.

Leavitt  explains the idea came from being “worried about the school budgets not passing at Town Meeting and thought this would be a great way to raise some money so programs wouldn’t need to get cut.  Plus, as far as I know, there’s never been a joint fundraiser for both schools, and I love the idea of working together.”

The benefit will feature Josie Leavitt and other local comedians including Shelburne Community School first and second grade teacher Sally Stevens.  When discussing her other profession, Stevens explains that, “being a comedian is about being good at observing everything around you and listening, really listening to what people say.  Everyone needs humor in their work place and their daily chores, but I might say teaching first and second graders trumps any other profession!”

The night of comedy is for adults only and tickets are $20. Order tickets online at or purchase them at the Flying Pig in Shelburne.

Come out for a good laugh and to support the local PTOs!
