Joann H. Peckham – Shelburne

Joann H. Peckham, 77, died peacefully Wednesday evening, April 25, 2012, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Joann was born on Jan. 26, 1935, in Windom, Kan., the daughter of George and Alta Marie (Smith) Hunsinger. Joann graduated from Little River High School in Kansas in 1952 and attended the University of Kansas. She married Wayne Peckham on June 20, 1955. In 1961, Wayne and Joann moved to Shelburne, where they built their own home in 1969, and raised their family. After a long professional career, Joann retired from UVM in 1993. Joann enjoyed working in her gardens and tending to her flower beds. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Joann is survived by her son, Kris and wife, Karen Peckham, of Essex Junction; daughter, Karoline and husband, Greg, of Woodstock; four grandchildren, Erin Camp, Tyler Peckham, Kyle Peckham, and Jordan Camp; six siblings, Georgene Glenn, Laurel Hunsinger, Kay Piper, Karyl Hunsinger, Sharon Glenn, and Linda Fesler; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years; and one brother, Dallis Hunsinger. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Fletcher Allen Health Care and Starr Farm Nursing Center for their compassionate care given to Joann and her family.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening, May 1, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m., and a funeral service will be held Wednesday morning, May 2nd, at 11 a.m., both at the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.
