On a national tour to celebrate the release of the latest book in his Spaceheadz series, Jon Scieszka will visit the Flying Pig Bookstore on Saturday, May 5, at 11 am.
Scieszka is the first National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, named by the Library of Congress in 2008. He is the author of some of the best known and funniest books written for children including “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs,” “The Time Warp Trio” series and the Caldecott Honor Book “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales.” He is also the creator of the Trucktown series.
Jon is a former elementary school teacher and an avid promoter of literacy – particularly for boys. His website www.guysread.com focuses on his national campaign to get boys reading.
Jon lives with his family in Brooklyn, N.Y. He says, “I write books because I love to make kids laugh. … [My] audience is hardcore silly kids, and there are a lot of ‘em out there! My motto in writing is: ‘Never underestimate the intelligence of your audience.’ Kids can be silly and smart! Before I became an author, I attended military school, studied premed in college, and worked as a lifeguard and house painter. I also taught computers, math, science, and history to kids grades 1-8. … If you’d like to call out my name, it’s pronounced ‘SHEH-ska.’ It kind of rhymes with ‘Fresca.’”
Attendees are asked to RSVP to the bookstore at 802-985-3999, or to email@example.com.
