The Women Business Owners Network (WBON) will hold its spring conference at the Hampton Inn in Colchester on Thursday, May 2. Featured keynote speaker will be former Ambassador Linda Tarr-Whelan is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at Demos, a national progressive think tank and author of the award-winning “Women Lead the Way: Your Guide to Stepping up to Leadership and Changing the World” (Berrett-Koehler, 2009, 2011), Linda was Ambassador to the UN Commission on the Status of Women in the Clinton Administration and Deputy Assistant to President Jimmy Carter for Women’s Concerns in the White House.
Named as one of the 50 most powerful women in Washington by Ladies Home Journal, Linda chairs the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles Leadership Group and the Pax World Resources Women’s Advisory Council, co-chairs the national advisory group for the CEDAW Education Initiative.
The featured speaker of the event will be Josie Leavitt of Flying Pig Bookstore and Vermont Comedy Divas. Josie Leavitt has owned Shelburne’s Flying Pig Bookstore since its inception. Starting with the goal of providing great literature to children, the Flying Pig has expanded into a full-service bookstore that won a national award for excellence in bookselling in 2008. She also performs stand-up comedy throughout New England, writes a weekly blog about children’s bookselling for Publishers Weekly, and has a humor column in the Charlotte News.
