Get ready, set, go…for this year’s letter carrier food drive on Saturday, May 11. Participation is easy! Just place non-perishable food donations in or by your mailbox for pick-up by your letter carrier during regular mail delivery. Remember, we are strong, so please load us up. Last year, letter carriers across the nation collected 70.7 million pounds of food donations along their postal routes, bringing the total to 1.2 billion pounds for the National Association of Letter Carriers’ (NALC) food drive, which began in 1992.
“We’re honored to be able to help people in need by leading an effort that brings out the best in so many Americans,” NALC President Fredric Rolando said. “Six days a week, letter carriers see first-hand the needs in the communities where we work, and we’re committed to helping meet those needs.” In Vermont alone, according to the non-profit organization Hunger Free Vermont, nearly every third Vermonter “cannot afford enough food or enough nutritious food” and “27,000 children under 18 live in food insecure households (22 percent).”
So please join us in helping families in our community. One can make(s) a difference!
