Baseball takes first loss
Mount Mansfield used a three-run seventh inning to defeat Champlain Valley 7-4 on Saturday, April 28. Davis Mikell went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for CVU while Jeff Badger singled and had two RBIs. Curt Echo suffered the loss for the 4-1 Redhawks.
CVU’s Dylan Ireland pitched a four-hitter to seal his first varsity win as Champlain Valley defeated Spaulding 6-2 on Thursday, April 26. Echo went 3-for-3, with a triple, and two RBIs while Mikell had two doubles and three RBIs to pace the Redhawks.

Redhawks shut out Rice
The girls tennis team cruised by Rice 7-0 in tennis action Tuesday, May 1 in Shelburne. In singles AnnClare Smith def. Alayna Hauke 6-1, 7-6; Emily Polhemus def. Basa Zvarova 6-3, 6-4; Claire Stoner def. Paige Hauke 6-2, 6-0; Andrea Joseph def. Shannon Collins 6-2, 6-0; Evelyn Mitchell def. Haleigh Byrnes 6-0, 6-1. In doubles: Laura Andrews/Amanda Taheri def. Laura Conroy/Natasha Singhong 3-6, 6-2, and Samone Schneider/MacKenzie Buckman def. Channah Sharpe/Cherry Singthong 6-2, 6-4.

Hawks lose in thriller to rival Essex
The Hornets slipped by the Redhawks 9-8 in boys lacrosse action Tuesday, May 1 in Hinesburg. Griffin Brady, Steele Dubrul, and Chris Bulla scored twice apiece while Alex Bulla had a goal and two assists. Christian Goulette also scored. Will Fay finished with 10 stops for the 5-3 Redhawks.
Hanover, N.H., also cruised past Champlain Valley 17-4 on Wednesday, April 25. Nevin Diparlo provided two goals and Brady had a goal and an assist for CVU. Chandler Jacobson scored and Owen Hudson made five saves for the Redhawks.

Redhawks sting Hornets
The girls lacrosse team defeated Essex 16-11 under the lights Tuesday, May 1 in Essex. Michaela Kiley scored five times and Kate Raszka scored four times to lead the Redhawks. Abby Owens and Brenna Gorman scored twice apiece while Jess Dudley, Caelin Weiss, and Lucia Llona also scored.

Softball loses two by mercy rule
At Hinesburg, Mount Mansfield routed Champlain Valley 28-3 in five innings on Saturday, April 28. Alannah Roy doubled and Leah Leister singled twice for CVU (0-5). Two days earlier, Spaulding cruised by Champlain Valley 23-7, also in five innings, for its first win Thursday, April 26. Roy doubled and homered and took the loss for CVU.

CVU wins first match of season
At Rocky Ridge golf course on Monday, April 30, CVU defeated Mount Mansfield and Mount Abraham with a round of 78 by Peter Scrimgeouer, Carter Knox shot an 87, Todd Forrester finished with an 88, Jack Tomashot, 89, and Lane Waples rounded out the team score with a 96.

CVU cooks Rice
The boys tennis team also defeated Rice 5-2 in Burlington on Tuesday, May 1. In singles Greg Fitzgerald def. Liam Kelley CVU 6-4, 6-0; Erik Oson def. Henri St. Pierre CVU 6-3, 7-5; Tyler Murphy CVU def. Jordan Barlow 6-0, 6-1; Asa Cloutier CVU def. Matt Case 6-0, 6-0; Evan Cohen CVU def. Matthew Bouffard 7-6, 6-4. In doubles: Brad Barth/Chris Vecchio CVU def. Jack Torney/Knight Appleton 6-1, 7-6 and Josh Huber/Zach Holman CVU def. Geoffrey Carney-Knisely 6-3, 7-6.
