Soon Shelburne Vineyard’s new summer art exhibit will feature the work of artist, Susan Abbot. The show will open on Sunday, June 2, with an artist reception to be held from 2-4 pm, and her paintings will hang through August 31. During the reception Abbot will be present to share her perspectives and mingle. Light refreshments will be available and wine will be for sale by the glass.
Abbott is known nationally for her unique large-scale still lifes and landscapes. In this show “Vermont Journal: Small Paintings from Four Seasons,” she uses her eye for vivid color and unusual composition on a more intimate scale. Abbott creates these plein air paintings as a way of paying attention to changing light and color in the landscape outside of her studio, and the result is a vivid visual journal of Vermont’s four seasons.
Susan Abbott graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA and MFA in painting from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. She has worked as a professional artist since then, exhibiting in galleries and museums around the country, and her paintings are represented in numerous corporate and individual collections. Her work has appeared in publications that include “American Artist,” “International Artist,” and “Watercolor Magazine,” and has been featured on NPR’s Diane Rehm Show and the Oprah Winfrey Show. She has been the recipient of grants from the Vermont and Maryland Arts Councils, and of numerous private and public painting commissions, including the “Art of Action” project. In Vermont her paintings are represented by West Branch Gallery in Stowe and Gallery North Star in Grafton. She currently lives in Marshfield, Vt.
Shelburne Vineyard is open seven days a week throughout the year and summer hours are 11 am-6 pm. The vineyard features gallery exhibits that change quarterly. In addition to the gallery, the vineyard offers daily wine tasting and tours, concerts, and festivals throughout the year.
