Cougars clip Redhawks

CVU baseball continues winning streak
The Redhawks used a seven-run second inning to defeat the Seahorses 15-5 last Thursday, May 9 in Burlington. Hayden Smith scored four runs and Dylan Ireland earned the win for Champlain Valley. On Tuesday, May 14, CVU senior Davis Mikell won a complete game, striking out 12, to defeat Rice 4-1 in high school baseball action. Smith led the team with two hits and two RBIs. Alex Henning also had two hits and Mikell drove in a run to secure the win for the 7-2 Redhawks.
Redhawks rebound after loss
After a 20-1 loss to Burlington last Thursday the Redhawks softball team rebounded to beat Rice 16-15 on Tuesday, May 14. In Thursday’s loss Michelle Christman scored CVU’s only run in the first inning while Laurel Hubbert-Severance and Harley Marshall had hits for the Redhawks. Claire Potter took the loss. On Tuesday, CVU held off a seventh inning rally to beat Rice 16-15 at home. Christman, Potter, and Marshall each had multi-hits. Potter earned the win for the 2-7 Redhawks.
After a May 8 boys lacrosse defeat to Essex 14-8, Champlain Valley responded by beating Spaulding 13-0 on Saturday and Mount Mansfield 11-5 on Tuesday. Against MMU Alex Bulla scored three goals and had an assist and Nevin DiParlo also scored three. Elliott Mitchell scored twice, Matt Palmer, Chandler Jacobson, and Jack Gingras each scored a goal while Owen Hudson made nine saves.
CVU boys tennis defeats two
Champlain Valley Union boys tennis team defeated St. Johnsbury 4-3 on Saturday, May 11 and Colchester 7-0 on Tuesday, May 14. The scores from the St. Johnsbury match were as follows: Singles: Joey O’Brien, CVU def Pedro Massi de Brito STJ 6-2, 6-1; Skylar Golann, CVU def. Solomon Zaga SJA 6-4, 7-5; Conor McQuiston, CVU def. Cameron Kossen SJA 6-3, 6-3; Angus Yip, SJA def. Nathan Comai CVU 6-1, 7-5; Nguyen Tran SJA def. William Hodgson-Wal CVU 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). Girls tennis team remains perfect
The CVU girls tennis team is on a tear. After 11 matches they remain undefeated. On Tuesday, May 14 the girls shutout Colchester 7-0. The scores were as follows: Singles: Kathy Joseph, CVU def.
