Harland A. Macia – Canterbury, N.H.

Harland “Hardy” Arthur Macia, 43, died peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2013, in Westford, surrounded by a wealth of family and friends. Hardy had fought a relatively short battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was born on June 16, 1969, in Portsmouth, Va., the son of Harland II and Sharon (Bister) Macia. He attended school in Westmont, N.J., and Essex Junction, graduating from the EJHS in 1987. He graduated from Drexel University in 1992, with a degree in computer science. Upon graduation, he founded and ran his own computer software company, Catamount Software, receiving many accolades for his programs throughout the years. Hardy was a free spirit who did things his own way, from ordering dessert before his meal at a restaurant, to running for Governor of Vermont on the Libertarian ticket. He moved to New Hampshire as part of the Free State movement. He raised support and money for many Libertarian candidates, including Gov. Gary Johnson, who ran for President in 2012. He loved Vermont but not the taxes. He loved the outdoors: hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing, and snowboarding. Most of all he was a people person. He loved his family and loved his friends. Among many others, Hardy is survived by his aunt Phyllis George of Shelburne and his sister-in-law, Mindy Heath and her husband, Shaun, of Shelburne and their daughter, Jayna. Hardy was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Joyce Bister; his paternal grandparents, Harland and Clara Machia; his uncles, Gil Garcia and Albert George; and aunts, Rose Flood and Margaret (Peggy) Burbank. At Hardy’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service at this time. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made to www.minorfh.com.
