According to Val Martel, director of the Shelburne Food Shelf, there aren’t enough funds in her account to help the many Shelburne residents who need help this season. Martel is concerned that many Shelburnites will face issues in trying to afford the basics in a tough economy that is further impacted by stagnant wage levels. She is hopeful that private donations from townspeople will help those in need this summer. “Whenever I ask the community for money to help their neighbors, Shelburne comes through in a big way,” Martel said enthusiastically. “The generosity of this town is a constant source of amazement to me—and I’m praying that this summer will be no different. Those in a position to assist are asked to send a check, made out to the Shelburne Food Shelf, to the Town’s Clerk Office at PO Box 88, Shelburne, VT 05482. Please write the words “Food Shelf” in the memo section of the check.
