Essex dominated both the girls and boys rugby state championships last Sunday, June 2 at the Tree Farm Recreational Facility in Essex. The girls match was a tight contest in the first half with Essex leading 8-3. After the intermission Essex scored immediately and then scored four more times in the final 25 minutes. Although Rutland gamely tried to score, any close attempts were thwarted by Essex’s excellent open field tackling. The final score was Essex 44, Rutland 3. In the boys game both sides delivered some good rugby, but Essex had too much speed and scored its tries on long runs eventually beating South Burlington 46-0.
