Freda Fishman Stroh died in Warwick, R.I., on June 15, 2013, at the age of 103. Born to Max and Carrie (Wolk) Fishman in 1909, in Vergennes, Vt., she graduated from Vergennes High School, and from the Sargent School of Boston University in 1930. Before moving to Rhode Island, she lived in Suffield, Conn., Springfield, Mass., and Boynton Beach, Fla. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Sarah Fishman Gould, and Gertrude Fishman Coen; and brother, Samuel Fishman. Among her survivors is a nephew David Coen of Shelburne. Freda, above all, cherished her close family and was the center of that family in more recent years; visits with her were always an inspiration because of her kindness, her generosity, her unassuming nature and her keen mind and memory – all which served her well through the years, including the last days of her life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Ohavi Zedek Synagogue, Burlington, VT; the Vermont Community Foundation (Fishman VUHS Scholarship Fund), Middlebury, VT; or the Bixby Memorial Library, Vergennes, VT.
