A group of eleven academically talented students graduated from the Vermont Commons School (VCS), among them Charlotte Rutz of Shelburne on Friday, June 7, 2013.

While at VCS, Rutz pursued an academically challenging college preparatory curriculum and she will enroll at Colorado College in the fall of 2014, where she was admitted early decision, after spending a gap year in Bolivia and Peru. Rutz studied and worked at the Vermont Zen Center in Shelburne to obtain a better understanding of the practice of zazen, the form of meditation unique to Zen Buddhism, for her senior project. She worked in the gardens at the center under the direction of Ti’an Callery, her mentor, at the Zen Center.
