Champlain Valley Union’s Autumn Eastman has been named the 2012-13 Gatorade Vermont Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
The award, which recognized not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the track, distinguishes Eastman as Vermont’s best high school track athlete.
The 5’3” junior not only ran the anchor leg on the winning 4×800 meter relay team at the D-I state meet in early June (the squad also broke CVU’s state record), she won two individual titles. Eastman broke CVU’s record in the 800 meter with a 2:13.06 finish, and won the 1,500 in 4:40.72.
Eastman has maintained an A average in the classroom. A member of CVU’s Athletic Leadership Council, Eastman will attend MedQuest Health Careers Exploration Program at the University of Vermont this summer.
