The annual chicken barbecue and auction will be held at the Methodist Church on Thursday, July 4. Rest assured the aroma of a good old-fashioned chicken barbecue will again waft through the town of Shelburne for the 51st year. Beside the tasty chicken on the menu, auctioneer Tom Young will start the auction at 10 am. Local merchants have donated merchandise and gift certificates and residents have donated gently used furniture and other household goods.
There will also be a white elephant sale in the Church’s Fellowship Hall, featuring used merchandise that amounts to a gigantic town-wide garage sale. The day’s events will be held rain or shine, with the doors to the white elephant sale opening at 9 am. The barbecue will begin serving at 11:30 am and will be served until the chicken runs out, usually around 2 pm, so come early. Lunch for adults is $12, children under 12 are $6. And don’t forget the church will offer leftovers to nonprofits and the community following the event from 2-3 pm. Any remaining items that may be useful may be obtained for free. The church is located on the corner of Route 7 and the Parade ground.
The church will accept donations of good quality, gently used merchandise now through July 3. Bring items to the church’s Fellowship Hall, which will be open Saturday’s 7 am to 7 pm, Sunday’s 11 am to 4 pm, and Monday thru Friday 9 am to 1:30 pm, and 4 pm to 7 pm. The auction committee cannot accept computers, non-working appliances, tires, or clothing. Please, no junk!
