“Traps” by MacKenzie Bezos
Review by Gene Schinto
There is no murder, no crime, yet “Traps” has its share of mystery and suspense. Mackenzie Bezos chooses not to reveal the thoughts of her characters, nor does she comment on their actions. Written in the present tense, her novel reads like a play, a very good ones.
The lives of four very different women are linked here in unexpected ways. Diana is a security guard: young, beautiful, and tough as nails. Vivian at seventeen is a prostitute, vulnerable and lost. Jessica is a paparazzi-hounded movie star estranged from her parents. Lynn runs a ranch for rescued dogs. She is the book’s oldest and perhaps most interesting character. The surprising ways these four come together makes their story irresistible.
