Not only is it summer. It’s the town’s big 2-5-0; there is cause to celebrate! On August 16, commerate the milestone with a cruise into Shelburne’s history. This event will kick off the weekend from 6:30-8 pm. The excursion features a narrated cruise along the shoreline, leaving from the King Street ferry dock and showcasing surprise guest storytellers, a fascinating display of vintage images, snacks donated by Shelburne eateries, and a cash bar.
Then, on Saturday, August 17, continue the celebration by exploring the town’s many historical exhibits, a scavenger hunt, and guided walking tours. Exhibits will be on display in the Town Hall from 10 am-4 pm. Walking tours will take place from 1-2:30 pm and, kids, look alive – those submitting correctly completed scavenger hunt forms will be entered into a drawing for a gift basket and goodies.
Later on, get footloose with a street dance at the Shelburne Shopping Park at 7:30 pm. Musicians Rick and the Ramblers will keep your feet busy.
The weekend closes with a jam-packed Sunday. Visit the Shelburne Museum for an interactive celebration of the town’s history, culture, and industry. Enjoy historical displays, skits, and activities set chronologically, like a walk through time, on Shelburne Museum’s Covered Bridge and North Lawn. Just don’t get stuck in time, because the day holds more excitement. Old-fashioned lawn games, a bike and wagon decorating booth, and face painting are some of the activities at the community barbeque, beginning at 3:30 pm.
Tickets for the barbeque are $10 and will be available for purchase at the Town Clerk’s offices beginning Thursday, July 11 by check or cash.
