The Shelburne 11/12 All Star team ended its stellar run on the baseball diamond this summer with two losses to Williston last week. After an undefeated first round in pool play, the team posted its first loss, 15-2, against Williston last Wednesday night.
That sent the team into the loser’s bracket where the Shelburne boys posted two solid wins to fight their way back into the semifinals. The All Stars first defeated Charlotte Friday with a 6-3 win, and Colchester 3-0 Saturday. Facing Williston once again on a scorching hot Sunday afternoon, the boys lost the semifinal game 12-0 in its final matchup in the double elimination District 1 Tournament.
Williston, which had already lost 9-2 against South Burlington, then lost 14-1 to the same team in the championship game Monday night at Schifilliti Park. South Burlington now heads to the state tournament scheduled for this weekend in Essex.
The Shelburne team worked extremely hard this summer with daily two and a half-hour practices for the past six weeks. The boys displayed great skill, attitude, and grit this summer, representing the community with pride and respect.
