Ann Wyatt Lyman, 84, of Shelburne, died Thursday, July 18, 2013. Ann was born in Lowell, Mass., on March 3, 1929, to Adelaide and Harper Wyatt. She attended Syracuse University where she met her future husband, Bob. They married on Sept. 9, 1949, and in 1957, they moved from Hyde Park, N.Y., to Burlington for the opening of the IBM facility in Essex Junction. Over their 40 years in Vermont, they made many life-long friends. Ann and Bob together enjoyed music and dancing at the Ethan Allen Club, playing bridge, golfing, skiing, tennis, and just anything that involved spending time with their daughters and friends. Ann participated in the Klifa Club, her local sorority chapter, was a member of the Burlington Garden Club and volunteered at the Fleming Museum. The activities were a joy for her, but her real joy came from the friendships that developed. After spending some time in Florida, in 2009 Ann returned to Vermont to be nearer to her daughter and Vermont friends. The last four years they got to spend much time together just enjoying the area, each other’s company and cold glasses of champagne. She also so enjoyed the new friendships she made at Wake Robin. Ann loved her family and friends and was always there for them. There was a twinkle in her eye, a quickness of wit, and a quiet yet underlying very deep caring. She had a keen ability to understand what was meant over what was said and respond with simple supportive thoughts, insight, perspective, and laughter. She will be so missed. Ann is survived by her daughter, Janet Balas (John Balas) of Shelburne; and her sister, Cynthia Johnson (James Johnson) of Smithville, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband in 1999; and her daughter, Lee Ann in 1994. The family would like to express their extreme gratitude and appreciation to the incredible and caring staff at Wake Robin. They also lit her days. A small, private family service will be held in her remembrance. In lieu of flowers, people may wish to make contributions in Ann’s memory to the Wake Robin Employee Appreciation Fund c/o Wake Robin, 200 Wake Robin Dr., Shelburne, VT 05482.
