Aug 4 A Landers LaunchWind Ridge Books of Vermont is pleased to announce the August 2013 release of “I Wish He’d Taught Me How to Shave” written by Saint Michael’s College professor Dave Landers, PhD. Donations from the author and publisher from book sales will benefit The Dave H. Landers Scholarship Fund at Saint Michael’s College.

“I Wish He’d Taught Me How to Shave” is a compilation of “Dr. Dave’s” reflections and students’ essays from his popular Saint Michael’s College gender studies course, “Men & Masculinities.” Landers distills what he has learned about the generational damage done when society holds strict and limiting views of masculinity – real men don’t cry, real men do like sports, men are primary breadwinners, and put themselves in danger (You Only Live Once – YOLO), et cetera. In the book students recount the poignant and profound ways that fathers defy or buy into these social constructs and influence their children’s defining views of a man.

The author is available for book signings, readings, and discussion groups. For more information, email “I Wish He’d Taught Me How to Shave” can be purchased from local booksellers or online at, or by calling Lin Stone at 985-3091.
