In conjunction with Shelburne’s 250th anniversary celebration, the Shelburne High School Class of 1963 sponsored a reunion on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Trinity Episcopal Church for all former Shelburne High students, their grade-school classmates, families, friends, and teachers, to recognize the anniversary of its graduation 50 years ago.
The event organization was coordinated by Mary Lou Gervia Coleman and Bonnie MacGregor, Class Poem “poets” for the 1963 yearbook, and several classmates and friends. Mary Lou summed up the reunion: “We had a wonderful gathering of old friends and schoolmates who attended Shelburne High School from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s for an evening filled with memories, laughter, and food. I look forward to seeing everyone at the next reunion.”
Graduates of the Shelburne High Class of 1963 were: Philip Bacon, Niles Bora, John Camm, Mary Lou Gervia, Thomas Goodrich, Paul Guay, Lee Hoag, Scott Hoyt, Beulah LaCaillade, Bonnie MacGregor, Anne McDonald, John McGee, Linda Stringer, and Timothy Thomas. Former teachers for the Shelburne High Class of 1963 present for this 50th reunion were Bernard “Bernie” Couture of Essex Junction, Robert C. “Bob” Jones of Burlington, and Douglas “Doug” Tudhope of North Hero.
Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the Shelburne High Class of 1964, the last graduating class before Shelburne High closed. Planning for 2014’s all-classes school reunion is already underway; Ethel Spear Brousseau of Milton and Carole Viens LaVigne of Middlebury were named coordinators for the event.
