The Director of the Shelburne Food Shelf, Val Martel, is already concerned that there won’t be enough funds in her account to help the many Shelburne residents who will need help with heating this fall and winter. Martel worries that Shelburnites will find it difficult to afford the basics in a tough economy that is further impacted by stagnant wage levels. “I am already heartsick over it,” Martel admits.
She is hopeful that private donations from community members will help those in need. “Whenever I ask townspeople for money to help their neighbors, Shelburne comes through in a big way,” Martel says enthusiastically. “The generosity of this town is a constant source of amazement to me – and I’m praying that this fall will be no different. Those in a position to assist are asked to send a check, made out to the Shelburne Food Shelf, to the Town’s Clerk Office at PO Box 88, Shelburne, VT 05482. Please write the words “Food Shelf” in the memo section of the check.
