The 14th annual Roland Batten Memorial Lecture on Architecture and Design will host Matthys Levy, principal and chairman emeritus of Weidlinger Associates, Consulting Engineer, on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 5:30 pm in Williams Hall on the University of Vermont campus.
Levy will discuss the Engineering of Architecture and his relationship with 20th-century, iconic architects including Marcel Breuer, Eero Saarinen, IM Pei, Wally Harrison, Gyo Obata, and Gordon Bunshaft. The topic of his presentation will be how these and other architects and artists allowed structural expression to create unique buildings.
Levy was the principal designer on such projects as the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History, the Javits Convention Center and the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York, the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, and the La Plata Stadium in Argentina that feature his patented Tenstar Dome.
