Quilts on exhibit for October and November: The Pierson Library is pleased to be exhibiting some of the Challenge Quilts of 2012 designed on the theme of “Vermont Traditions” by members of the Champlain Valley Quilter’s Guild. Each quilt expresses the individual’s concept of traditional Vermont culture and includes an explanation of how the quilt expressed the theme. Our exhibit includes “Honey Bees” by Anza Myers, “Autumn in Vermont” by Rosemary Clark, “Plant it” and “They will Come” by Joanne Guillemette, “Rosie with Posie” by Barbara Forauer, the “Frog Days of Summer” by Angela Miller, “Honeybee and Bellflower” by Hope Johnson, “Vermont Star for the Table” by Andre Emmell, and “Some Vermont Family Traditions” by Karey Young and Karen Abrahamovich.
The Champlain Valley Quilter’s Guild will be displaying this year’s quilts on the theme of “Inspired by Color” at the Field House in Shelburne on Oct. 19 (10 am-5 pm) and 20 (10 am-4 pm). Special exhibits will include quilts by Anne Standish and her students, Sue McGuire’s Friendship Quilts and Andre Emmell’s work with Quilts of Valor, a program that provides quilts to wounded veterans.
Tuesday Tea: Are you a secret – or not so secret – Anglophile? Did you ever wish you could be a character in a Jane Austen novel and gossip over tea? Are you a fan of British comedies and dramas? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you may want to join friends old and new at the Pierson Library for Tuesday Tea. We are launching this monthly program on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 3 pm in the Library. RSVPs are requested so we know just how many scones are needed! We will start the series by discussing BBC’s “Are You Being Served?” If you haven’t seen this program on your own TV, check out some of the DVDs from the Library.
Have questions about Vermont Health Connect? Grace Mignosa and Lisa Maynes from Vermont Family Network will be at the Pierson Library on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 4 pm. Learn about your options, ask questions, and more importantly, get answers.
The Library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14 for the Columbus Day holiday. Be sure to stock up on DVDs, CDs, and book either at the library on Saturday or at the Friends of the Pierson Library Book Sale in the Town Center gymnasium over the weekend. The Book Sale runs from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, Oct.12 and from 10 am to 3:30 pm on Sunday, Oct. 13. Friends of the Pierson Library are invited to a special preview session on Friday, Oct. 11.
