The Champlain Valley Historical Reenactors, Inc. (CVHR) will be hosting the Battle for Shelburne Crossroads – Civil War Weekend and Encampment at the crossroad of Harbor and Bay roads in Shelburne this weekend, May 19 and 20.
There will be demonstrations of infantry drills, cavalry, artillery, and battles on both Saturday and Sunday. These demonstrations will show the use of 19th century military tactics. In addition, visitors will have the chance to amble through authentic Union and Confederate camps to see and talk to soldiers going about their daily duties. The CVHR is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers with a mission to recreate the life of soldiers during the American Civil War. This includes wearing authentic wool uniforms, eating period food, sleeping in canvas tents and discarding all the trappings of the 21st century.
