Ethan Allen Homestead hosts historical scavenger hunt

Legend has it that Ethan Allen and his brother, Ira, argued over who was the better woodsman. They settled the matter by having a race from Bennington to Burlington. Ethan, being big and burly, barreled straight through all natural obstacles. Ira, using his woodsmen skills, followed a longer but more developed route. Reportedly, they both arrived at the same time and celebrated their tie together.

Come to the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 am-4 pm to learn some of the skills that Ethan and Ira would have needed for their competition. This event is much more than demonstrations. All participants will have an opportunity to perform various tasks like lighting a fire using flint and steel, land navigation, military skills, finding resources on the land, and much more. In addition to a whole lot of educational fun, all participants will win a prize!

The Museum is located at 1 Ethan Allen Homestead in Burlington. Admission is $3 for children 6-12, and $5 for adults. For more information, call 865-4556 or visit www.ethanallenhomestead.org.
