VASTA YOUTH SPARQ Join us after school for the VASTA Youth SPARQ Program (Speed Power Agility Reaction and Quickness). Professional strength and conditioning coaches will stimulate, motivate, and educate young people in the areas of fitness and nutrition for overall well-being. Participants will learn form, function, and injury prevention strategies while increasing coordination, self-confidence, endurance, flexibility, and lean muscle. VASTA’s approach is to shape the interest of young athletes and non-athletes in the development of fitness. Participants of any fitness ability are welcome to join as workouts are adjusted to the individual fitness level. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-3:50 pm, $100/session. Session 1: Oct. 15-Nov. 7. Session 2: Nov. 12-Dec. 12 (no class week of Thanksgiving). Classes will be held at the VASTA Facility at the Shelburne Field House Complex. This program is for students in grades 6-8.

CPR Certification Class: American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED is a classroom, video-based, and instructor-led course that teaches Adult/Child/Infant CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking. This course teaches skills with the American Heart Association’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills. Sat., Nov. 2, 9 am-12:30 pm, $35 ($10 discount will be given to Shelburne Recreation Volunteer Coaches, adults and children ages 12 and up. The instructor is Ryan Prouty, Vermont CPR and AED. Registration deadline is Oct. 18.
Youth Basketball Registration: Emphasizes the basics of the sport along with good sportsmanship. Dec. 14 to Feb. 15, 2014 for grades 1-8. First and 2nd grade teams are co-ed and will practice and scrimmage on Saturday mornings. Grades 3-8 will have separate girls and boys teams that practice one night a week with games on Saturday mornings against other Town’s Recreation teams both in and out of Shelburne. $36 which includes a t-shirt to keep. Registration deadline is Nov. 20. Volunteer coaches are needed! Contact the Rec. Office for more information or to sign up.

Halloween Parade and Trick or Treat Event Sunday, Oct. 27: It’s time to get out the costumes and join the fun at the Annual Shelburne Halloween Parade and festivities! Floats will line up at 12:45 pm at Shelburne Shopping Park and the Parade will begin on Falls Road at 2 pm. Following the parade, enjoy music, hot dogs, and popcorn at the Fire Station and a Costume Contest in Town Gym. Trick-or-Treating, games, candy, and raffle prizes will also take place in Town Gym from 2:30-4 pm. To register a float for the parade contact Elaine Dates ( or Dave Rice (, 985-5201. This event is sponsored by Charlotte-Shelburne Rotary, Citizen’s Bank, Shelburne Supermarket, Hannaford Supermarket, People’s United Bank, and Titus Insurance. We will have a Food Drive to stock the Shelburne Food Shelf. Bring a non-perishable food donation to the Town Gym and get a special Halloween prize!
