Nearly 250 Vermont students from eight schools around the state participated in a concert of student choruses, hosted by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders. Nearly 400 people attended the event Saturday evening in Montpelier.
Sanders, who serves on the Senate education committee, spoke about the importance of funding for the arts in our public schools and praised the student choruses. “Vermont has a number of great choruses in schools throughout the state. I have had the pleasure of hearing a number of them and enjoyed that experience very much,” Sanders said.
The schools that participated in Saturday’s event were: Barre City Elementary and Middle School, Barre Town Elementary and Middle School, Champlain Valley Union High School, Essex High School, Harwood Union High School, Mill River Union High School, Montpelier High School, and North Country Union High School.
The student choruses each performed songs and joined together to sing “These Green Mountains,” Vermont’s state song, as a finale.
