Charles R. Demers – Burlington

Charles R. Demers, 81, of Burlington, died on Sunday, May 20, 2012, in Starr Farm Nursing Center. He was born in Burlington on June 22, 1930, the son of the late Andrew and Albertine (Cote) Demers. He served in the US Marine Corps and upon returning home, he joined General Electric, retiring in 1988 after 40 years. He was a high school basketball official for several years, making many wonderful friends. He was President of the Vermont State Board of Approved Basketball Officials (105) in 1972. He also gave of his time on Sundays to the Catholic Youth Organization. Woodworking was a special love of his, making furniture for all his family. Chuck also loved golf and played for many years at Rocky Ridge, where he made many special friends. Among his survivors are his son, David Demers and wife, Denise, of Shelburne; and his grandchildren, Heather, Jackie, and Sarah Demers of Shelburne. He was predeceased by his sister, Christine Cieplicki and her husband, Bernie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 11 am in Christ the King Church with burial to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. For those who wish, donations may be made to have a Mass said in his memory.
