This Thanksgiving, we wanted to give thanks to all of you who have lent kind words and encouragement, offered to volunteer, called to ask how you could help, and otherwise welcomed the people staying at Harbor Place. The community’s support has buoyed us as we’ve worked to transform the former Econo Lodge into a facility where people can get support or simply have a safe place to stay when there’s no other option. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have gotten up and running.
Within a week of opening on Nov. 1, Harbor Place was at full capacity. We are continuing to make improvements to the property, including installing security cameras to make sure our guests and our neighbors can feel safe. Those should be installed this week. We currently have onsite security in the evenings and are in regular contact with Shelburne Police.
Many have asked how to help. We are still assessing what all the needs are, so the best thing to do is to contact me and I can let you know what’s needed. I can be reached at 861-7305. Though we appreciate the willingness to help, we aren’t quite ready for volunteer efforts at Harbor Place. We also appreciate the offers of donated items like toiletries, diapers and cleaning supplies – please do contact me to discuss how you’d like to help and arrange a good time for drop off of those items.
Again, from all of us at the Champlain Housing Trust, a big “thank you” for your compassion.
