Shelburne’s Winter Parking Ban begins

With winter fast approaching, the Winter Parking Ban is soon to follow. Per the Town Motor Vehicle and Traffic Regulation Ordinance, parking is not permitted on town streets between midnight and 8 am, starting Dec. 1 and ending April 1. In addition, State of Vermont Statute 23 VSA 1102 states that any vehicle left in the public right-of-way that interferes with snow plowing operations may be towed without warning. Owners are responsible for moving their vehicles when snow is forecast.

In addition to vehicles, please remove all other obstacles from the right-of-way for the winter.  These include, but are not limited to, basketball hoop stands, skateboard ramps, and other items that would be an obstacle to snow removal operations. The town will not be responsible for any damages to items that are left within the right-or-way. Also per State law, it is illegal to plow snow from private property on or across public highways.

Please do not rake/blow leaves into the road or drainage ditches/structures. Leaves can clog storm drains, cause flooding and back-ups, increase stormwater maintenance costs, and are detrimental to water quality. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to remove and property dispose of leaves.

If you have questions, please contact the Highway Department at 985-5123 or Paul Goodrich at 316-153.
