The Shelburne Community School will kick off the holiday season Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9:30 am-1:30 pm with its Holiday Fair. This hugely popular, free event is bigger than ever and will again fill both of the gyms, as well as the cafeteria, with tables brimming with handmade crafts and delicious foods.

This year’s fair will feature an assortment of finery, such as handmade jewelry, wreaths, hair bling, homemade soaps, tote bags, notecards, pillows, and gift baskets. While there are many adult-made crafts, some of the students also have a tables of their own creations. Games of all kinds fill the back gym. Children may enjoy a chance to win prizes at the game booths, which will include the Wheel of Fortune and Nerf Dodge ball, to name a few. A silent auction will be held by the Imagine team. Stop by the team’s table, make a bid, and take advantage of this opportunity to win some unique holiday gifts.

Come to the Fair with an appetite! In the cafeteria, attendees will find a coffee stand with donated coffee from Village Wine and Coffee, plus breakfast and lunch will be served as a fundraiser for the band, Chamber Choir, and Wind Ensemble. The Chamber Choir will use this fundraiser for its spring trip to New York City while the Wind Ensemble needs money for its spring trip to Montreal. A number of classes and individuals are also hosting bake sales, selling homemade pies breads (freeze for the holidays!), and a wide variety of interesting and creative treats. The wildly-popular musical cakes raffle returns as well.

Parents have found that this is a great affordable way for the kids to do their own holiday shopping for friends and family. With a small amount of money, the children can buy a lot of gifts and support their classmates.

Many class teams at SCS are working hard on their crafts for sale. Proceeds from the team tables go directly back to their classrooms, helping pay for special expenses and field trips. Also, a food drive for the Shelburne Food Shelf is planned. Non-perishable foods will be collected at the entrance to the Fair to share with neighbors in need.

So please come have a great time, pick up some wonderful crafts and food, and support our school. It’s fun for the whole family!
