SMC hosts concert of Seasonal Music, Gregorian Chant this weekend

The Vermont Gregorian Chant Schola will present its annual concert of Seasonal Music and Gregorian Chant at Saint Michael’s College Chapel in Colchester on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 pm. The 18-member choral group is in residence at Saint Michael’s College and is under the direction of Dr. William Tortolano, professor emeritus of fine arts/music.

The very old repertoire of chant will be presented from the Orbis Factor setting of the Mass; Christmas Antiphon; the “O” Antiphons for Dec. 17; as well as liturgical rounds from Germany and France. The acclaimed two manual, 14 stop, 17 rank, Casavant organ in the acoustically-reverberant chapel will be performed by Dr. Tortolano, Chapel organist emeritus in compositions by Daquin, Rowley, Brahms, and John Rutter.

Audience carols are from England, Germany, and African-American settings. The concert is free and open to the public, but an optional offering will be available.
