D-2-RecWhite Belt Family Karate classes: This program will help you and your child develop self-esteem, focus energy, and develop character while learning safety techniques and awareness skills through basic Shotokan Karate techniques. Focus will be on developing hand-eye coordination, balance and mental focus, leadership, and partnership skills. This session will begin on Thursday, Jan. 16 to Feb. 20 from 5:30-6:30 pm for $50. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join with their kids! Family discounts apply. Pre-registration is required.

Basic Dog Obedience Class: Develop control, teach your pet manners, and gain a better understanding of your canine companion. Dogs must be at least 6 months old. Please note: dogs do not attend the first class. Basic obedience training includes basic socialization, heel, sit, stay, come, down-stay, and stand-stay. Max. 16 dogs per class. This class will be held on Mondays from 6-7 pm Jan. 6–Feb. 24 for $75 (Non-residents: $85). The first class meets in Town Center Activity Room – with NO dogs. The rest of the classes will be held in the Town Gym. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Fly Tying Class: Join the fun learning to tie your own flies using many different materials from feathers to tinsel, natural to manmade, unique to common! The instructors, with over 15 years of experience, will teach participants to tie small and simple, to large and complex flies over the course of six evenings. Instructor/student ratio is very low with much individual attention. For ages 16+, but younger students may be able to attend with an adult. This class will be instructed by Vermont Fly Fishing and Tying Club Members. It will be held on Mondays, Jan. 13, 20, and 27 and Feb. 3, 10, and 17 from 7-9 pm at 862 Barnes Ave., Colchester (Old Fort Ethan Allen Bldg.) The cost is $30/person (students should provide their own vise, small scissors, bobbin, and threader). The class is offered in cooperation with the Vermont Fly Fishing and Tying Club and The Champlain Valley Recreation Association.

Free Senior Walking Program: Stay active and healthy during the icy and cold winter months by walking in a safe and warm environment. Please bring a pair of clean, dry, soft-soled shoes with you and change before entering the gym. No registration is required. Shelburne residents only. Schedule is subject to change. Call 985-9551 for updated schedule or check calendar on the gym door. This program will run Mon.-Fri., 9-11 am from Dec. 2-March 28, 2014 as scheduled.
