Baseball on 9-game winning streak

Davis Mikell hit a first-inning grand slam to lead Champlain Valley over South Burlington 13-3 on Thursday, May 17 in Hinesburg. Mikell went 3-for 4, Drew Nick went 2-for-2, Tucker Kohlasch went 2-for-3, and Curt Echo hit a triple and earned the win for the Redhawks.

On Friday Kohlasch hit a bases-clearing double in a five-run second inning helping the Redhawks to overcome Missisquoi 7-3. Jeff Badger went 2-for-2 while Nick struck out seven for the win.

Kohlasch hit another double to help Champlain Valley beat Milton 4-1 in high school baseball action Saturday, May 12. Dylan Ireland pitched six innings, striking out five and walking one before Mikell picked up the save for CVU.

Curt Echo did not walk a batter and struck out five to lead the Champlain Valley Union baseball team past BFA-St. Albans, 3-0, on Senior Day Tuesday, May 22. Mikell issued a two-run home run in the first inning and Tim Jones singled and scored on a wild pitch for the 13-1 Redhawks.

CVU takes another round

Champlain Valley Unions golf team is at again. On Tuesday, May 22 at Cedar Knoll the team was on top of the leader board. Medalist Jack Tomashot shot a round of 72. Peter Scrimgeour finished with 80, Carter Knox, 81, Todd Forester, 92, and Ted Hadley, 95.

Lax wins 2, loses 1

On Thursday, May 17 at Buck Hard Field, Chris Bulla scored four goals and had one assist while his brother Alex scored a goal and had three assist to lead Champlain Valley past Burlington16-9. Christian Goulette, Quinn Kropf, and Steele Dubrul added two goals apiece for the Redhawks. Will Fay made eight saves.

Two days later the Bulla brothers were at it again. Chris Bulla contributed six goals and an assist and Alex Bulla netted three goals and three assists to help Champlain Valley cruise by BFA St. Albans 17-6. Christian Goulette added five goals, Kropf had two assists, while Hoyt McCuin and Riley Prom also contributed. Fay and Owen Hudson combined for 12 saves.

On Tuesday, May 22 South Burlington cruised past Champlain Valley, 15-7, in a high school boys lacrosse. Goulette scored twice while Kropf, Chris Bulla, Alex Bulla, Chandler Jacobson, and Charlie Shea contributed for the Redhawks.

Softball team stays positive despite losses

In softball action Thursday, May 17 South Burlington beat Champlain Valley 15-10 in Hinesburg. Alannah Roy and Kenzie Roberts had two hits each for CVU.

Missisquoi cruised by Champlain Valley 17-2 in Hinesburg on Friday, May 18. Both Laurel Hubbert-Severance and Michelle Christman had two hits apiece for CVU.

The next day Milton took advantage of Champlain Valley by scoring 10 runs in the first inning and defeating them 24-6 on Saturday, May 18 in Milton. Hubbert-Severance contributed two hits for the Redhawks.

On Tuesday, May 22 BFA-St. Albans routed Champlain Valley 27-3 in five innings. Leah Leister had an RBI single for CVU.

Girls lax wins

Champlain Valley Union cruised past Montpelier 17-3 in high school lacrosse action on Monday, May 21 in Hinesburg. Abby Owen scored four, while Jess Dudley and Caelin Weiss both tallied three apiece. Bridget Moore and Brenna Gorman scored two goals, while Michaela Kiley, Kate Raszka and Emily Spencer also contributed for CVU. Miki Gobielle made four saves.

Boys tennis rebound twice after loss

The Hornets stung the Redhawks with a 4-3 win in boys tennis on Thursday, May 17. Two days later the boys rebounded by defeating Colchester 7-0. And they rebounded again by defeating Mount Mansfield 7-0 on Monday, May 21 in Shelburne. The results of the match are as follows: Singles: Liam Kelley, CV def. Champlain Valley cruised by Essex, Colchester, and Mount Mansfield 7-0 on Thursday, May 17, Saturday, May 19, and Monday, May 21 respectively. The following are the most recent results against MMU.
